OVER 25 YEARS EXPERIENCE!
Rochelle Bush is the owner and primary guide of Tubman Tours Canada. She is a freedom seeker descendant, born and raised in St. Catharines and is deeply rooted in the community. Her maternal 2xs Great-Grandfather was the minister-in-charge of the Salem Chapel for a period of time when Harriet Tubman was a member.
Over twenty-five years ago Rochelle began to preserve, promote and protect Canada’s rich Black history. This included participating in the development of the early Black history narrative and government tourism initiatives in St. Catharines and around Niagara, Ontario. While doing such, Rochelle began to offer step-on guide services to showcase Niagara's Freedom Trail and enhance the visitor experience. About fifteen years ago she created the HARRIET TUBMAN TOUR to highlight the heroic figure's time in St. Catharines.
Rochelle is a Trustee and the resident historian of the Salem Chapel, BME Church, Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad National Historic Sites and a certified Niagara Tourism Ambassador. She is also a past Historical Society of St. Catharines Board Director, a past Board Member of the St. Catharines Museum, former Emancipation Day organizer, affiliated with the historic Zion Baptist Church and a licensed Niagara Parks tour guide.
Some career highlights include participating in the 1997 Parks Canada and National Park Service Bi-National Underground Railroad Field Study, the 2003 National Park Service Harriet Tubman Special Resource Study in Washington DC, a 2013 interview conducted by Dr. Henry Louis Gates Jr. for the award winning PBS documentary titled The African Americans: Many Rivers to Cross, and the development of the Niagara Parks 2017 Harriet Tubman “Crossing into Canada” Interpretive Panels.
NOTE: Tubman Tours Canada, although affiliated with the Salem Chapel operates separately from the church.
